Some Stories Deserve to Be Told Right

Stories help children see themselves, understand others, and imagine who they can become.
Stories help children see themselves, understand others, and imagine who they can become.

At CT Princess Parties, one of the questions we're occasionally asked is why we're so selective about casting.

The answer is simple:

Because the stories matter

When a child meets one of their favorite characters, they're not just meeting someone in a costume. They're meeting a hero. A role model. A dream they've carried in their imagination for months—or sometimes years.

For that child, the character is real.

And we believe that experience deserves care, respect, and authenticity.

Character entertainment is storytelling. Just like theater, film, or television, the people portraying those stories matter. Their voices matter. Their performances matter. Their ability to connect with the heart of a character matters.

But for many beloved characters, culture matters too.

Some stories are deeply rooted in specific traditions, histories, and communities. Those cultural identities aren't side notes. They're part of what makes those characters who they are.

When a child meets a princess whose story is inspired by Polynesian culture, that culture matters.

When a child meets a princess whose story is rooted in Black American history and traditions, that matters too.

Those details are not obstacles to work around. They are part of the story itself.

That's why we do not cast performers simply because a costume fits or because a date needs to be filled.

We cast thoughtfully because authenticity matters.

If we don't currently have the right performer for a role, we continue searching. If a character is unavailable, we are honest about it. We would rather decline an opportunity than compromise the integrity of a character whose story deserves to be represented with care.

For us, this isn't about checking boxes or following trends.

It's about respect.

Respect for the cultures that inspired these stories.

Respect for the performers who bring them to life.

And most importantly, respect for the children who believe in them.

Representation is powerful.

Every child deserves the chance to see themselves reflected in stories of courage, kindness, adventure, leadership, and magic. At the same time, every child benefits from experiencing stories that come from backgrounds different from their own. Those moments build curiosity, empathy, and appreciation for the world around them.

Stories have always had the power to bring people together.

We believe character entertainment should do the same.

That's why families across Connecticut and Westchester County, New York, can trust that every casting decision we make begins with a simple question:

"What serves this character, this story, and these children best?"

The answer isn't always the easiest path.

But it is always the right one.

Because at the end of the day, we're not in the business of putting people into costumes.

We're in the business of bringing stories to life.

And some stories are too important to tell any other way.
