What Happens Before a Princess Arrives? | Behind the Scenes at CT Princess Parties

A child sees Anna and Elsa step through the door.
The music begins. Crowns sparkle. Stories come to life.
For the next hour, a living room becomes a castle, a backyard becomes a kingdom, and imagination takes over.
What they don't see is everything that happened before that moment.
And that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
At CT Princess Parties, we provide professional princess and character entertainment throughout Connecticut and Westchester County, New York, and our goal is simple: when a princess arrives, the magic should feel effortless. Behind every royal visit is a great deal of preparation, planning, craftsmanship, and care.
The Work Behind the Magic
Long before the first tiara is packed, preparations are already underway.
Costumes are inspected and steamed. Wigs are styled. Music is tested. Activity supplies are packed. Timelines are reviewed. Every detail is checked and rechecked to make sure the experience feels seamless from start to finish.
While guests may see a one-hour party, that hour is supported by many more hours behind the scenes.
Every Gown Has a Story
One of the things we're most proud of at CT Princess Parties is that no costume simply comes out of a package and goes straight to a performance.
Every costume in our collection has been altered, upgraded, customized, fitted, repaired, or enhanced by hand. Some gowns have undergone dozens of modifications. Others have been completely transformed from their original form. And some costumes are created entirely in-house from the ground up.
Children notice details.
They notice the sparkle on a cape, the way a skirt moves, the perfect braid, and the finishing touches that bring a character to life.
When a child looks up and whispers, "That's really Elsa," those details matter.
Between events, costumes are cleaned, repaired, upgraded, and carefully maintained so that every performer arrives looking their very best.
More Than a Costume
The best character performers don't simply wear a costume—they become the character.
Our performers spend time learning character mannerisms, practicing voices, studying stories, and preparing for the endless questions children love to ask.
Where is Olaf today?
What's your favorite castle?
Do you still build snowmen?
Every answer helps make the experience feel just a little more real.
The Magic Hour
Then the moment arrives.
The princesses make their entrance. Excited faces light up. Parents reach for their cameras. The birthday child beams from ear to ear.
Stories are shared. Songs are sung. Photos are taken. Memories are made.
This is the part everyone sees.
The part that looks effortless.
The part that feels like magic.
Why We Do It
When the party ends, the work isn't quite over.
Costumes are unpacked.
Wigs are brushed, styled, and restored.
Supplies are restocked.
Notes are made.
Preparations begin for the next celebration.
Families throughout Connecticut and Westchester County, NY trust us to create magical memories for birthdays, school events, libraries, camps, community celebrations, and special occasions.
Most guests will never see the sewing, styling, planning, packing, and preparation that happen behind the scenes.
They'll simply remember the moment a princess walked through the door.
And honestly?
That's our favorite part.
Because when the preparation disappears, the magic remains.
